Radio Frequency Identification

RFID, in full Radio Frequency Identification, allows you to keep track of what is going on at any time. Through technology that uses radio signals, you identify and locate people or objects from a distance. Rapidly and without optical scanning.

RFID can be applied in various sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, e-commerce and ports.

How does RFID work?

The data is stored on a tiny chip, which can be in a label or in a reusable housing. Via radio waves, an electromagnetic reader reads the data on the chip. The information can be represented on a card and then accessed on any fixed or mobile screen.

One of the biggest advantages is that there is no longer a need for physical contact with the product to which the tag is attached. Active RFID tags, which emit signals autonomously, can be read even from long distances.

What are the benefits of RFID?

Contactless process
The data is transferred from the transponder to the reader device and from the writing device to the transponder via radio antennas. Neither visual contact nor physical contact is required. The radio signals can penetrate various materials. This not only leads to faster detection of the goods, but also has the advantage that inaccessible areas can be reached more easily.

Fast data exchange
The wireless transmission of data between transmitter and receiver is almost without delays.

Bulk detection
RFID readers can read multiple RFID tags in large quantities simultaneously. In theory, only one scanning process is then required to detect all products on a pallet or transport container.

Virtually error-free
RFID tags achieve a reading result of virtually 100%. RFID systems offer additional security: they can recognize incorrect tags and exclude them.

Security thanks to encryption
Even when using plain text, data can be transmitted encrypted. This also enables access control.

Insensitive to external factors
Extreme environmental conditions, such as large temperature fluctuations, heat, cold or moisture are no problem for RFID tags. Even products that are later subjected to special post-treatment or cleaning processes over time can be reliably identified with RFID.

Reusable
Unlike conventional printed barcodes, the data on an RFID chip can be changed or supplemented at any time afterwards.

Invisible
The tiny RFID transponders can be unobtrusively integrated into most labels.
