RFID
RFID, which stands for Radio Frequency Identification, allows you to keep track of everything at all times. Using technology that relies on radio signals, you can identify and locate people or objects from a distance—instantly and without the need for optical scanning!
RFID can be used in various sectors, such as manufacturing, logistics, retail, e-commerce, and ports.
How does RFID work?
The data is stored on a tiny chip, which can be housed in a label or a reusable casing. An electromagnetic reader uses radio waves to read the data from the chip. The information can be displayed on a map and then viewed on any fixed or mobile screen.
One of the biggest advantages is that physical contact with the product to which the tag is attached is no longer necessary. Active RFID tags, which transmit signals autonomously, can even be read from a great distance.
What are the benefits of RFID?
Contactless Process
Data is transmitted via radio antennas from the transponder to the reader and, conversely, from the writer to the transponder. This process requires neither visual contact nor physical contact. Radio signals can penetrate various materials. This not only leads to faster detection of goods but also has the advantage of making it easier to reach inaccessible areas.
Fast Data Exchange
Wireless data transfer between the transmitter and receiver occurs with virtually no delays.
Bulk detection
RFID readers can read multiple RFID tags in large quantities simultaneously. In theory, only one scanning process is then required to detect all products on a pallet or transport container.
Virtually error-free
RFID tags achieve a read rate of nearly 100%. RFID systems offer added security: they can detect faulty tags and exclude them.
Security Through Encryption
Even when using plain text, data can be transmitted in encrypted form. This also enables access control.
Unaffected by external factors
Extreme environmental conditions, such as large temperature fluctuations, heat, cold, or moisture, are no problem for RFID tags. Even products that undergo special post-processing or cleaning procedures over time can be reliably identified using RFID.
Reusable
Unlike traditional printed barcodes, the data on an RFID chip can be modified or updated at any time.
Invisible
The tiny RFID transponders can be discreetly integrated into most labels.
